As a large museum of ancient Chinese art, the Shanghai Museum boasts a collection of 140,000 precious relics, with bronzes, pottery, paintings and calligraphy. The abundance and quality of the collection have enjoyed an excellent reputation both at home and abroad. The Museum was founded in 1952, originally located in the ancient Shanghai Race Club, 325 West Nanjing Road, and has since been continuously developed. The museum was moved to the ancient Zhonghui Building, 16 South Henan Road, in October 1959. In 1992, the Shanghai Municipal Government decided to assign People's Square, the true city center, the new Museum Shanghai. Covering an area of 39,200 ㎡, with a height of 29.5 m, the celestial circular dome and the squared base of the earth that symbolize the philosophy of a spherical sky and a square ground, create an extraordinary visual effect. The Shanghai Museum is a unique architectural combination in which traditional culture and modern spirit come together, making it an exception among the many museums in the world.
Xīntiāndì has been a Shànghǎi icon for a decade or more. Located in the heart of the city of Shanghai, south of Huaihai Zhong Road, is the center of luxury entertainment and shopping, formed in the alleys of traditional houses. Xintiandi was the first icon of economic development in the city demonstrating that historic architecture has a great commercial impact. Elsewhere it might seem obvious, but in the 21st century China, it was a true revelation. Wealthy customers and outdoor dining make Xintiandi very lively and if you're looking for an unforgettable meal or browsing through Shanghai's most fashionable boutiques, you're in the right place. The heart of the complex consists of the traditional Shikumen houses, mostly rebuilt, renovated in a modern and elegant style. There are two worthwhile sights – the Shíkùmén Open House Museum and the Site of the 1st National Congress of the CCP
This 468-meter-high reinforced concrete structure that rests on a tripod base is the most symbolic contemporary building in the city and its image is reproduced everywhere, from postcards to t-shirts. Like it or not, its style typical of the Deng Xiaoping era is inadvertently retro, in a mix of science-fiction lines and Soviet brutalist architecture. Inside, the highlight is the Trasparente Observatory (259m), a glass floor walkway with a breathtaking view of the landscape below. Other features of the tower include a revolving restaurant at 267m high, a floor with the observatory, a 5D cinema and a roller coaster inside.
The Wild Animal Park in Shanghai is located in the new area of Pudong, about 35 km from the city center. The Wild Animal Park in Shanghai is the first wild zoo in the country and is one of the largest zoological parks in China, covering an area of 153 hectares. The wild animal park is very popular with visitors who love wild animals. In the park, visitors will interact with animals, can touch and feed them. All the animals in the park live in natural habitats. On the contrary, to see wild animals, visitors will be sheltered inside a bus, to see them in their natural wild habitat. The park is in fact divided into two areas: one for walking and one accessible to buses. There are over 200 rare species and over 10,000 animals from around the world, including giraffes, zebras, white rhinos and hunting leopards. Some animals are under special protection and include giant pandas, golden monkeys, tigers from southern China, Asian elephants and many others.
In the heart of Beijing, surrounded by 3.5 km of city walls, the Forbidden City, UNESCO heritage, is the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings and the largest palace in the world. This spiritual palace was the solitary home of two dynasties of imperial rue, with over 900 buildings and an entourage of eunuchs, servants and concubines, until the Republic dethroned the last Qing emperor in 1911. The Forbidden City is an approximation of the Chinese “Zijin Cheng”, a poetic epithet that also refers to the purple color and the polar star, considered the emperor's heavenly seat. Officially it’s called Palace Museum, a public institution founded in 1925 after Puyi, the last emperor, was evicted from the internal court; most Chinese simply call it Ancient Palace. Because of its vastness, restoration is a continuous effort, with the ambitious plan to have 80% of the building open to visitors in 2020. In 2015, many sections of the perimeter wall were opened, offering views of the south of the complex. A year later, the Royal Icehouse has seen the light of day, hosting a restaurant that offers pasta and simple dishes.
The Great Wall is one of the biggest and most famous conquests of the ancient China, with 19 different dynasties that contributed to its construction from the 7th century BC. to the XVI century after Christ. The Great Wall is the longest and most consistent wall outof many sections. Wandering from east to west China like a giant dragon, crossing a changing topography of deserts, grasslands, plateaus and mountains, has no equal in the world in terms of size and breadth. The Juyong Pass, also known as the Great Wall of Juyongguan, is located near Badaling, in the southern part of Changping County. This is one of the recently restored parts of the historic Great Wall. The wall is located in the middle of a ravine of about 20 kilometers. North of the Great Wall of Juyongguan, there is an important city, Zhangjiakou, while Beijing is in the southern part. The Juyong Pass is a world heritage site and is protected to maintain the national and cultural heritage of the place. For a long time the Pass was considered a military stronghold.
